a postcard from this is england film festival

Although the pandemic seems a fading memory, some festivals are still having their first ‘normal’ event since it began. Our strategy client Alfie sends this postcard from the fantastic This Is England over in Rouen. Below we asked him a few questions too:

What was the local area like?

The local area was beautiful, with pretty cobblestone streets and wonky houses. Rouen also has three mesmerising gothic cathedrals all within 300 yards of each other!

Apart from your film, what film did you watch that you really liked?

Another film that played in our block was The Bayview, a short documentary about immigrants from places such as Ghana and Tonga working as fisherman in a small coastal town in Scotland. It was a fascinating glimpse into their lives and the tender loving matriarch who puts them before herself and does all she can to make their difficult lives more bearable. The film was incomparably real and impeccably shot.

How would you sum up your time there?

I’d sum up my time there by saying it was amazing and it far exceeded my expectations. The French have the same love for film as me so it’s a real gem, couldn’t say a single bad thing about it, excellently organised and located in a really pretty, romantic little city.
